Lost

12/07/08 | by techboywi [mail] | Categories: Personal

I've been in a bit of a funk lately. And by lately, I mean the past few months. I've pretty much kept it to myself, trying to figure things out in my head. Basically, it comes down to making a decision on my future. For quite awhile now, me and my best friend, Eric, have talked about moving to Tennessee together.

It seems like a attractive option, a new place, no more cold winters, no more snow, a chance to make a fresh start. I figured it would be just the thing I've wanted. For a long time, I felt out of place here. Nothing is new or exciting here, I feel like most days I'm just going through the motions. I figured that a move would be the change I need to liven up my life again.

On some level, I also thought it would be what I needed to do to move Eric and my friendship to the next level, as in moving more into a relationship instead of just a friendship. I've since come to learn that is not in the cards. We've had that discussion recently, and he's so much as told me he doesn't see me that way. Which I completely understand. It hurt a little (ok, alot) but I cannot make someone feel a way they don't.

Now, don't misunderstand that last paragraph to mean that was the only reason I thought about moving. I've been to TN before, and it is a beautiful state, the people are very friendly, and I've always had a weakness for southern men :). There is many reasons why a move there would be a positive step for me. I decided long ago to never move FOR someone. If I did ever do that, it would be for ME.

Lately, I've had second thoughts about pulling up roots and leaving. Doing so, would mean starting over. I've already pretty much started over after filing my bankruptcy, I still am starting over actually.

Moving would mean giving up all that I have here, family, friends, security, a job that I actually love (well, most days) for uncertainty. Sure, I'm sure I'll find a job down there, and actually right now my only expenses are my cell phone and car insurance, so aside from feeding myself and having a place to live, I don't have alot of expenses. But the uncertainty of it all scares me, I don't know when I will find a job, it took me 6 months to find a job after being fired from U.S. Cellular, and that was just a temp job. It was another 6 months before I found the job I have now.

I would also miss all the things here I hold so dear. For example, last night, my family and I went to see A Christmas Carol downtown. That has been our annual tradition for as long as I can remember. I love the show, but I don't necessarily need to go, its more for my parents than anything. They get so much joy out of spending that quality time as a family. If I moved, that would all change, I couldn't easily do that with them anymore.

I have only a few friends here, the ones I do have, like Billie, Mike & Aaron mean alot to me (I don't tell them nearly enough). That too, would be gone. Sure, we'd still be friends, but not in the same way... I'd have to rebuild that too.

I'm still on the fence about this.. It could be a good thing for me, or it couldn't. I just don't know. Maybe it will be what I have to do to meet that special someone, because it surely hasn't happened here (I have a story on that too).

OK...I've kinda went all over the place on this, but I just had to get all that out. I must go get food now, so I'll wrap this up.

And The Beat Goes On...

Proud to be a American

If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Delta Airlines one year ago, you will have $49.00 today.

If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in AIG one year ago, you will have $33.00 today.

If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Lehman Brothers one year ago, you will have $0.00 today.

But, if you had purchased $1,000 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the aluminum cans for recycling refund, you will have received $214.00.
Based on the above, the best current investment plan is to drink heavily & recycle. It is called the 401-Keg!!!

A recent study found that the average American walks about 900 miles a year. Another study found that Americans drink on average 22 gallons of alcohol a year.

That means that on average Americans get about 41 miles to the gallon! Makes you proud to be an American!

Still In Motion

Its been awhile since I had a real update. I've wanted to, but just never could bring myself to sit down and write anything. Yeah, I know, I'm lazy :>>. Things been been going OK. Work has been keeping my busy lately, my new role has been a bit of a challenge, with things being thrown at me daily, and keeping up on the one major project I've been assigned.

The project involved overseeing the firmware upgrade on some equipment that is used at approximately 300 hotels. Once we got a list of sites that had the equipment, we need to go through each one and see if they actually need the upgrade (since we currently don't have that information). Once that phase is complete, then comes the task of upgrading them all. Currently, about 25% of that 300 are upgraded already, but that still leaves quite a lot that need it.

No, I don't have to go through each one myself, I have several people helping me, my role is more of overseeing everything and co-ordinating it all. On top of keeping up on the daily tasks has made for some very busy days. Its making me get much better at organizing and managing my time, which is a good thing.

On a personal note, I've been somewhat disappointed lately in a friend of mine. I've caught then in a lie, I feel hurt that they would feel the need to lie to me. Not so much the lie itself, because it makes me lose a little bit of trust in that person. And this was from the person I thought I could always trust.

Honesty is of the utmost importance to me in a friendship. I try to be honest with all my friends, and I expect the same from them. I don't think that is too much to ask for.

So far, I have not confronted this person, for awhile I wasn't going to do it, I was just going to let it go and move on. But as I thought about it, it just really begain to bother me. I feel as if my intelligence was being insulted. I'm not going to go into the details, because they are not important, and this will not end the friendship, but it has dissapointed me.

Next weekend, I begin my drunk driving classes. Part of my punishment for my DUI back in July is to go to a class called "Group Dynamics". From what I can tell, its basically a class to tell you to not drink and drive, how alcohol affects you, etc. So, next weekend, plus the first weekend in November, I gotta spend 5 hours of my day (each day!) in a classroom. I haven't been in a classroom since college, and that was 1999! It also is going to mean that those two weekends I will be very limited in what I can do. I am not allowed to drink the night before the class, they will actually be doing breathalyzer tests before each class. I guess it wouldn't be a good idea to show up to a drunk driving class with a hangover ;)

Drama & Other Updates

09/09/08 | by techboywi [mail] | Categories: Announcements [A]

I'll begin this blog with the good news. I was promoted today at work. This was the long promised promotion, that finally came to fruition. My new position will actually be a new position within the company....kind of. Previously, there were three tiers of support. Tier 1 being the basic, front line support. They handle most of the day to day issues, answer the majority of the calls, etc. Tier 2 (my former position) is next after that. They handle a little more complex issues, oversee the tier 1's, make sure that all the their responsibilities are taken care of. Tier 3 was the top level, and also served as the department supervisors. They took on the most complex issues & handled any replacements or requests for revists. In addition to that, they ran the department.

I will now be a Tier 3, but the supervisory duties are being moved to a separate position that has been created. So, I will basically be handing all the complex technical issues, replacements, revisits, etc, including any other special duties, and the department supervisors will be overseeing the department. Its going to be a lot of work, but I think I am up to it. The two positions are essentially going to be the same, I just won't have the burden of the manigerial duties.

I was promised this role a few months ago, but things had to wait until certain things, staffing wise, were taken care of. Now that that has been worked out, the promotion was made. I'm excited about it, but also very nervous. We'll see how things go!

Now, a update on the house drama. Chris (the crazy one) moved out on Sunday. So, things are finally at piece. The past couple days have been great, just relaxing with Cheryl (the good one). She seems very nice, no where near as bad as Chris made her seem, but of course he had to over-exaggerate everything to make him look like the innocent victim he was so fond of playing.

So, it looks like the new Show, "West Allis, 53227, was canceled after only one episode. We'll see how things go, but so far...it looks like I'm in a good place.
